Welcome
to
Stansfield, a small village with a vibrant community
in the south west corner
of Suffolk.
Mentioned in the Domesday Book, Stansfield sits in
beautiful, historic
landscape, recognised as special with 'Locally Valued
Landscape
' status.
Stansfield’s lanes
and footpaths offer stunning views.
Located
four miles north of Clare, within 25 minutes
drive from Bury St Edmunds and around 30 minutes from
both Sudbury and Newmarket. Stansfield has a
population of around 220, and is in the West Suffolk
District
Council area.
There is a Village Hall, with a
children’s play area and playing
field, and which hosts regular community events
including cinema evenings.
There is also a pub/brewery in the village, as
well as a book club, cricket club and bridge club.
The village has a Good Neighbour
scheme with volunteers
offering support to both individual residents and the
community, Helpline 07827
128511.
The Anglican All
Saints Church is located on Plough Hill at the north
end of the village. Flint-fronted
and restored several times, it
dates back to the Norman period. Inside, a War
Memorial commemorates the lives
of the Stansfield men who lost their lives in the two
World Wars of the 20th
Century, eight in the First World War and two in the
Second World War.
The memorial reads:
“Greater Love hath no man than that he lay
down his life for his
friends,” St John.
