STANSFIELD CRICKET CLUB
We are an informal and a friendly club. We like to win
games, of course, and matches are competitive, but we
play cricket for enjoyment, not to add stress to our
lives on a Sunday. We aim to provide a convivial
afternoon of village cricket in the English countryside,
for players and spectators alike.
We play up to 15 friendly games each season
(April-September) on Sunday afternoons, against teams
from the Suffolk/east Cambs/north Essex area. Plus, (if
time and weather allow), a Single Wicket Competition
that we try to slot in, usually at the end of the season
in September. At home matches we probably serve the best
cricket teas in the UK, if not the World. After the
game, we retire to the Compasses, our welcoming village
local, which serves a selection of real ales and other
beverages.
We have more than 20 players 'on the books', ranging in
age from early teens to mid-sixties with a breadth of
abilities! They are never all available for any one
match, so we warmly welcome new recruits who wish to
play the odd game - or every game - in a relaxed
atmosphere. The Club can provide bats, pads, gloves if
necessary, but players need to bring their own
whites/footwear.
Membership of the Club is just £10 for the whole year
and match fees are £3 (£1 for those unemployed &
students), so it’s likely we have the cheapest 'subs' in
Suffolk and possibly the whole country.
